Castle Decoration

The exterior walls of castles were usually whitewashed. Inside, the walls were usually whitewashed with the line of the stones picked out in red and from the mid-12th Century adorned with paintings. Internal walls were sometimes plastered and then decorated – Henry III favoured gold stars on a green background.
